Bowled Over

I was watching India's test match against Sri Lanka this afternoon. And I watched as the bowlers itched for a breakthrough. And they were provided this, but owing to the older and more experienced one of the lot. It wasn't difficult to read the obvious distress combined with the mounting frustration of a lack of a breakthrough on the faces of the younger bowlers. But, in the end, each of them delievered and deliverance came to them in return. The relief was unmistakeable but the boyish elation was greater. And the child in them surfaces on these occasions, when they run and soar as the adrenalin rises within them.

At those key, breakthrough moments in our lives, we too are overwhelmed with emotion. Emotion of finally delivering and reaching a standard - one that you may have set for yourself or that have been set by the people around you. Either way, we are relieved.

And for one moment we let ourselves be completely bowled over.
